Tasmania bound package always cops a surcharge!

19 pound parcel from Wisconsin US to Tasmania Australia. Sent December 4th, delivered January 6th.
EMS usually takes a month to carry my packages from the US to Tasmania. For the quoted price, the service has always been adequate.
However, one thoroughly annoying thing that they do is charge a set price for the Tasmanian Zip Code, then when it is in Australia, they suddenly go "Shock, Horror!" It has to go across Bass Strait to Tasmania from the mainland!
At this point they suddenly charge an extra 15% or so, taking it from the card used in the transaction without notifying me of this charge.
All Tasmanian postal codes all start with '7', no mainland post codes do so, so it's obvious to Blind Freddy that the package needs to go across Bass Strait. The original quote should cover that. -
Two months to save only a little on cost.

I typically used another service, but wanted to try PM on a non-time-critical shipment.
It saved me maybe 5% over the other service.
Shipped parcel on Nov-06. Arrived Jan-07.
Unless cost is my biggest motivator, I'll not use this service again.Agent replied on 07/01/2026
Our sincere apologies for the delay. We will investigate the delay and bring up the fix to avoid further.

It took somewhat longer than announced. I think the French post service was on Strike :)
